THE FOCUS

Our History & Purpose

Massillon Christian School was founded in 1973 as a ministry of Massillon Baptist Temple. The Lord has blessed us with the privilege of training many students who serve in a variety of ministries, professions, and occupations.

MCS does not just provide a Christian education; it provides academic and spiritual training from a distinctively Baptist doctrinal position. Massillon Baptist Temple is a fundamental, independent, mission-minded, soul winning church that stands for the inspired Word of God as the only true source of knowledge. All students of MCS will be taught the doctrine of this fundamental point of view. Children with families of other denominations may be admitted, but they will be expected to learn the doctrinal issues upon which the Massillon Baptist Temple was founded.

We believe the whole Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is the verbally inspired and infallible Word of God. Through Christian education, the individual is taught spiritual, academic, moral, and patriotic principles that develop scholarship, citizenship, leadership, and victorious Christian living.

The primary purpose of MCS is to ensure that pupils have a knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Also, it is our purpose to provide an education and environment which stimulates Christian character and provides optimum opportunities for the development of spiritual, intellectual, moral, and physical attributes in a Christian context.

WHY WE'RE HERE

Christian Purpose

The purpose of Massillon Christian School is, first of all, to lead all pupils to a saving knowledge of and a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Second, it is our purpose to provide a Christian education and environment which stimulates Christian character and which provides optimum opportunities for the development of spiritual, intellectual, moral, and physical attributes in a Christian context.

Our program encourages:

  1. Total commitment to doing God’s will in every facet of one’s life. Rom. 12:1-2.
  2. Active participation in a good local church and its programs-Heb. 10:23-25.
  3. Personal commitment to Christian service through continued education and consideration of Christian ministries-I Pet. 4.
  4. Proper respect of parental and civil authority-Eph. 6:1-3; Titus 3:1-2.
  5. Good habits of citizenship and reverence of our country and its democratic institution-Titus 3:1-9.
  6. Academic excellence and a thorough development of one’s God-given talents and abilities-Matt. 5:14-30.
  7. Leadership training so that each pupil is equipped to perform in major decision-making roles as an adult-under God-Josh. 24:14-15.
  8. Personal health and cleanliness, both physically and mentally-Rom. 12:1-2; James 4:8

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Statement of Faith

  1. We believe that the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is the verbally inspired and infallible Word of God (KJV) -Ps. 12:6-7; II Tim. 3:16-17. 2.
  2. We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God-an infinite, intelligent Spirit; the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth, who is inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love. We believe that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons-the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost-equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption-Deut. 6:4-5; Mk. 12:29-30; I Jn. 5:7.
  3. We believe Jesus Christ was born of Mary, the Virgin, and is the Son of God and God the Son-Lk. 1:26-38; Jn. 1:1-14.
  4. We believe the Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, and that men are justified by faith alone-Rom. 3:28; Gal. 2:21; I Pet. 3:18.
  5. We believe that He rose from the grave on the third day according to the Scriptures-I Cor. 15.
  6. We believe that He, only, is the great High Priest, and we need not the intercession of any man, but that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us-I Tim. 2:5; Heb. 6:17-7:28.
  7. We believe that Christ will come again in Person bodily, visible to establish His kingdom on the earth-Acts 1:9-11; I Thess. 4:13-5:2.
  8. We believe that in order to be saved, the soul must be born again: “Ye must be born again” (Jn. 3:7b). Salvation is by grace and the only conditions are repentance and faith-Jn. 3:16; Eph. 2:8-9.
  9. We believe that there is only eternal life through Jesus Christ and that, without Christ, there is everlasting punishment of the lost-Jn. 3:14-18; Rom. 6:23.

This is simply a summary of our beliefs. As a ministry of the Massillon Baptist Temple we hold to the same doctrinal beliefs as our founding church. A full list of those beliefs can be found here.

HOW WE TRAIN

Student Life

The scriptures command “to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6) Training involves correction as well as instruction, and it is a process that should begin in the home and continue throughout life. It is designed for the moral, emotional, physical, and spiritual welfare of all. The goal of Christian school training is to develop a self-disciplined person, who is submissive to the Word of God and the will of God.

Positively, the school hopes to cooperate with the home in forming good habits in the student, such as:

  1. Cheerful obedience to authority (parents, teachers, bus drivers, etc.)-Eph. 6:1-3; Titus 3:1-2.
  2. Responsibility in doing assigned or expected tasks.
  3. Cooperation with others in playing and working at school and on the playground.
  4. Courtesy and respect for others ( students, teachers, and visitors). Students should learn to speak courteously, not interrupt others, walk in the buildings, eat with proper manners, etc.-Eph. 4:32.
  5. Cleanliness in person and property. Students are expected to put all trash in trash cans, pick up paper that is on the floor and grounds, keep their desks neat, and dress neatly.
  6. Truthfulness and honesty in work and life.
  7. Promptness in attendance and assignments.
  8. Morally good conduct in respect to recreation, social relationships, and language in and out of school.

Students who attend MCS must operate within the framework of rules and regulations necessary for efficient operation of the school and classroom.
